Having trouble recruiting or maintaining members? At a loss for creative and impactful yet feasible events? This workshop is aimed at laying the foundation for a healthy, functional team that takes initiative, is efficient, and has fun doing it. Jen and Philip will present strategies to recruit good members, motivate them and troubleshoot common interpersonal problems. They will also share (and brainstorm with you) successful outreach activities that your team can easily engage in to meet the national goals. This workshop will be mostly discussion-based, so bring any questions you may have! Delegates will leave with printed resources, management skills, and will have the opportunity to create a strategy for recruitment and chapter activities for their specific chapters.

               2. "Putting Your Best Awareness Foot Forward: from Elevator Pitches to TV Interviews" (Francis Deng, Co-Chair) - Room 221
How do you tell passerby your message without their eyes glazing over? How do you approach the media, and how should you present your team’s activities in the best light? Francis will share practical professional tips on explaining our cause and your efforts to students, community members, potential sponsors, and reporters. Participants will practice elevator pitches and live interviews. Delegates will leave with the skills to present hepatitis B as an important, actionable health issue towards a lay audience in a brief amount of time.

This workshop is designed for anyone--from new members to those who will be speaking to a knowledgeable audience--who wants a solid evidence-based grounding in current HBV and liver cancer public health knowledge. You will learn how to teach your peers effectively and learn the basic logistical requirements for screening/vaccination services. Participants will leave with access to sample presentations, current resources, and an ability to speak comfortably with health professionals about the contributing factors of this health disparity.

              4. “Forging Campus and Community Partnerships” (Phillip So, Recruitment & Training Advisor; Jenny Chen, President Emeritus of Team HBV at Harvard; Jesse Mahautmr and Helen Cho, business analysts, Laboratory for Quantitative Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital)  - Room 221Establishing long-term relationships with community organizations is never easy. Nor is convincing your campus clinic to identify and offer free HBV screening to at-risk students. But it’s been done. Francis and Philip will share personal tips on how to find, approach, and work with community clinics, campus clinics, and community organizations.
